bit dodgy, but with modern glues and the huge solidity offered by the internal baffles you end up with a very solid piece of mdf. i'd personally veneer it using iron on veneer which is pretty simple, but you could paint it or even stick old lp covers on it - up to you... this will take a weekend - tops...
